The Or Foundation

Tarnty is a circular yarn created by The Or Foundation’s Material Technology and Transformation Lab (MTTL) to address the growing textile waste crisis linked to Ghana’s second-hand clothing market. Made directly from discarded t-shirts that can no longer be resold, Tarnty transforms unwanted garments into a new material suitable for knitting, crochet, weaving, and other craft applications. Each ball of yarn is produced from a single t-shirt, giving value to textile waste while supporting local making practices and circular production models.
